samba not working after converting to trusted system

HPUX 11i

I have been working on my test server, to convert it to a trusted system for the enhanced security options.

my standard account ie nickd is able to telnet and login, however my samba account (all of them in fact) have stopped working.

This is what appears in the /var/opt/samba..... log.mymachine name:

smbd/password.c:(1558)
domain_client_validate: could not fetch trust account password for domain DOMAIN_NAME

Any ideas?

Re: samba not working after converting to trusted system

Hello,

I think in trusted systems Windows account should exist on HP-UX too.

BTW, I remember a trusted system with samba running where all windows accounts have to be defined as \, but if I'm right it was due samba configuration.

Re: samba not working after converting to trusted system

If passwords are more than 8 chars, use just first 8 chars. When converting to trusted systems, only first 8 are taken into consideration.

Also, check if accounts are not expired.
modprpw -V (to avoid that)

Re: samba not working after converting to trusted system

obviously, I am venturing into unknown territory.

That combined with a lack of focus this morning, may result in my not being very productive on this subject until tomorrow.

I obviously have to start doing some reading on modprpw and getprpw etc.

Re: samba not working after converting to trusted system

After some review, it appears that the /var/opt/samba/private/smbpasswd file was missing.

I added root and then my own userid nickd and all appears fine.

Thanks,
