VMWare ESX 3x on Proliant DL360 G4?
Hi all,
I have here a HP Proliant DL360 G4, with 1 x 160G hdd. I cant install VMWare ESX on it!! It seems that VMWare is not picking up the HDD. ARe there drivers available for this particular model. I have read around a fair bit, and have come across a recent compatiblity matrix, which shows this model i own to be compatible. Is there something im missing, or newer software i should be using? Any help at all appreciated!!

Re: VMWare ESX 3x on Proliant DL360 G4?
Hi,
you need SCSI or SAS HDD, is your SAS or SATA? With SATA you can't install ESX.
If you have SAS HDD, which CPU do you have in the machine?

Re: VMWare ESX 3x on Proliant DL360 G4?
ESX 3.5 and 3.5i introduced limited SATA support, but I couldn't find anything in the HCL's. Might be worth a call to VMWare / HP (if you bought support from them).
From the 3.5 release notes:
SATA supportâ ESX Server 3.5 supports selected SATA devices connected to dual SAS/SATA controllers.

Re: VMWare ESX 3x on Proliant DL360 G4?
Yes, i can confirm that VMWare ESX 3.5 SP1 works with this particular server, which does have SATA drives. It looks as though it emulates them using an iSCSI driver of some sort.
