9iAS is the Application Server - a separate server from the database.

Re: Oracle Application Server - 9iAS on HP-UX 11.11
we have it running (ver. 9.0.2) on HP-UX 11.11. I didn't install it myself, but if you can be more specific about your problem i can try and ask our Oracle guys. And -
if i remember it right there is a problem with 9.0.1 version, download the latest version from OTN website before trying anything else.
HTH

Re: Oracle Application Server - 9iAS on HP-UX 11.11
we are running both version 9.0.2.1 and 1.2.2.2 on hp-ux 11.11.
You should have a look at the docs found at: http://otn.oracle.com/docs/products/ias/content.html
Basically, you should install the latest version and applicable patches. Make sure that you go through the pre-installation, installation and post-installation tasks properly.
9.0.2 requires good planning and you should be aware about the key components of the whole architecture(Infrastructure and application server)
Please find attached the cook-book for installation of 9.0.2. This should be your starting point if you choose this version. (otherwise, 1.0.2.2.2 with patch 12 should be straight-forward)
Hope this helps!
Regards

Re: Oracle Application Server - 9iAS on HP-UX 11.11
It might be a 32 bit product which will impact its ability to take advantage of nice 64 bit performance.
One thing is sure. Follow each and every step in the pre-installation guide. I have two painful 11.00 installs behind me.
Also, get xvfb from software.hp.com
Oracle reports needs a working X Server to render graphics. No X server means painful error message, no reports and useless support from Oracle.
xvfb is a sort of server based, faux X Server that lets Oracle Reports run nicely.
I recommend your developers do their reports in pdf if you want any control of fonts at the user end.
Hope I helped. I can correspond directly on specific issues.
