I am receiving the below note on my HP SIM server
Ping inclusion ranges, templates, and/or hosts files: *
Note: The automatic discovery task is configured with a large number of addresses: 3258
This message is displayed in the Automatic Discovery Task. We are pinging by IP range. Does this message have impact at all or is it purely information only?

Solution
It is informational. However if you are able to break your discovery tasks into smaller chunks, performance on the SIM box will be better. I have 40 vlans total that I have to discover so I get this message. I have 10 vlans for production Non switch load balanced servers, 10 for production load balanced and then 10 for non-production servers and 10 for remote cards. So I have a discovery task for each group of 10 which run on separate days of the week in the wee hours of the morning. I have found in my 2 sim environments which has over 1000 servers in each it is better to run the discoveries outside our working time.
Another thing when managing this amount of devices is to change your default and any created data collection schedules. By default they are set to run when the SIM server reboots. So is the daily device identification. Sounds like a good idea but it isn't when you are managing this amount of servers and you have to reboot the box during working hours.
Hope this helps.
