Re: tar x /dev/rmt/xxx fails
Hi,
Can you do display of the contents of the tape using
tar tvf /dev/rmt/xxx
This is also possible if you are using no rewind device for backup & try to restore without rewinding device after backup.

Re: tar x /dev/rmt/xxx fails
I/O error means that the tape cannot be read. There is no workaround, the tapes or the tape drive must be replaced

Re: tar x /dev/rmt/xxx fails
how do you know you can 'copy' files to tape ?
on your tape device do a:
dd if=
of=/dev/null
do you get an error from tape device ?

Re: tar x /dev/rmt/xxx fails
Hi,
Try changing the DAT(or tape). Are you using the same device for restoring. if no then check for comatibility of drives(or tapes) or clean the drive you are using for restore.
cheers!!!
