high cache useage

For the past 3 and half months nimble cache has been utilizing around 480 to 530 cache utilization with a couple of week long 102% utilizations, the only thing that was done was we tried Veeam for a short trial period along with our already Backup exec running in production, I'm new to this and cannot find anything that has changed, as far as the network, or hardware and data transfers, please help.

Thanks Chip.

Re: high cache useage

Cache on the 2.1 and older OS's move data into cache based on small block random writes - Like Veeam. So what is happening is the veeam backup is going 100% into cache. You can turn cache off for the veeam volume, or upgrade to 2.2 or higher code to remove this issue. If you have 4% or higher flash to disk ratio, the 2.2 OS or higher arrays will track all blocks by number of times used.  The more you use a block, the more likely it will stick in cache.  You can alway call support and they can help you in under 1 minute on average.

Re: high cache useage

Thank you for your reply, I have been to support and they recommended to upgrade nimble 2.3.9 which I did and it seemed to respond but after 2 weeks it went back up to a new high of 538%, as for Veeam  we have removed it and all its subsequent files, a while ago (2 months +) and the issues persists, I'm new to VMware and Backup exec as well as the Nimble but from what I'm seeing it doesn't make sense to me, unless what your saying is that the blocks being stuck in the cache could be permanent problem, if so is there a way to flush the cache.  Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Again thanks for helping Kevin.
