Recover Admin Password or reset to Factory Default

Dear all,

I have a 3Com switch 3CR17561-19 SuperStack 3 4500 26

ports. Since have been long time not use it, I forgot

the admin password.

Is there any ways to resolve the admin's password or is

there any ways to reset the switch back to factory

default?

Your information and assistance would be appreciated.

Regards,

Polo

Re: Recover Admin Password or reset to Factory Default

Hi.

1) With a console cable plugged in the switch, reboot the switch, type CTRL + B and choose the option to skip configuration file (I think that is the option 7). The switch boots with the default configuration (user admin, no password).

2) Set up an IP address on int vlan 1, connect your notebook to a switch port and set up an IP on your notebook on the same network segment. Transfer the configuration file to your workstation, via TFTP server, using the command:

tftp put

3) Edit the admin password and other parameters you want to, and upload the new file to the switch:

tftp get

4) After that, type the command below in the console:

startup saved-configuration

5) Reboot the switch again; it will came up with your old configuration and the new password.

Hope it helps.

Re: Recover Admin Password or reset to Factory Default

Likewise, I have acquired several 2924-SFP (3CBLSG24) switches, but do not have the admin password. Is there a way to reset them to defaults or bypass the password, or did I buy some expensive bricks? Thanks

Re: Recover Admin Password or reset to Factory Default

If you reboot the Baseline switches already connected to the console port you could break the boot sequence with CTRL + B; then you will be able to change the password.

Thanks, I had tried that based on the prior post and it didn't work. I'll have to make sure my terminal emulator is passing the Cntl/B to the switch.

Did you ever figure it out? Having the same problem with the same model switch.

Thanks!

Nope, Cntl/B IS going to the switch, but its not responding to it; it just continues to boot. I'm still trying to get a real ascii terminal (vs a PC terminal program) but it looks like I have an expensive brick for now.
