RSM and variables

I am trying to write a RSM job where I set a variable at the start of a job, I then referance the variable as various stages.
It works fine, now I want to pass the same variable in the argument section of a 'launch' command. Checking the server I see that RSM passes the variable as text instead of expanding the variable and then passing that as the argument. Is there any way of using variables and launch command?
