server detects 4 external disks

hi all,

i have a linux server and currently it has only one external disk. when i issued the command "iostat" on the device column it displays up to 4 external disks. tried to reboot it, same output(i attached a copy of the output). i'd just like to know why.
why does the server detects 4 external disks?
thanks!

Re: server detects 4 external disks

Most likely this is a san attached disk that has more than one path. If this is teh case you will need path failover from a vendor like qlogic or emc or HP. Depends on who makes the fiber card and who the storage is from.
