I am using RHEL AS v 2.4.21-4.EL. when i put startx or init5 it shows:

Fatal server error
could not open default font 'fixed'
X10: Fatal I0 error 104 ( Connection reset by Per) on Xserver ":0.0"

I have already changed /etc/X11/XF68config file with resulation size.

Re: Graphics mode problem

Shalom shahid,

To be of assistance, I'd have to know what kind of hardware we are dealing with.

Its likely on modern hardware that the graphics are unknown to the OS and graphics mode won't work.

There are workarounds from the various hardware vendors on these issues.

Re: Graphics mode problem

A message "Fatal server error: could not open default font 'fixed'" seems to suggest that the required X font packages are not installed, or your font path in the /etc/X11/XF86Config file is incorrect.

If you don't intend to store the X fonts locally, it might be that your font server is not responding.
