Which minimal graphical environment will be normaly used for a linux thin client?

You could use the bare minimum, and that is only X without any window manager. That is when you will be exporting the remote display full screen. this works well in a citrix environment for example.

Did you get a chance to get a look at 1disk w windows. X windows on a single floppy. Beats all the others :).

I use this approach to provide schoolers cheap desktop environments. Linux Terminals are diskless and can be at 512MB of RAM and as long as it has a network card that supports LAN boot -- you're good to go.

As to yuor question about graphical desktop -- the Ubuntu desktop is whatI am using ith LTSP.... Here are is the URL for the brew - https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP

My oldest client is a Pentium III based Compaq iPaq with 900Mhz cpu and 512MB RAM... and an on-board GMA950 graphics cip. It performs flawlessly
