Using something else as an Ignite server.

Hi to all,
This may be a really stupid question, but I don't know the answer, so will ask anyway.

Is it possible to use something other than a HPUX box as an ignite server to build another box?

e.g. copy the golden image & ignite config files to an NFS share, (say on a linux box) and point the client at that to perform the install.

If not would anyone have any recommendations for remotely rebuilding a box from scratch?

Thanks for any help you can give

Re: Using something else as an Ignite server.

Phil,

I'm sorry to say that I think the answer is a resounding "no".

A quick review of the Ignite general information page shows that the product name is "Ignite-UX" and that "Ignite-UX is an HP-UX administration toolset". That seems to pretty much narrow it down.

Re: Using something else as an Ignite server.

Shalom,

Ignite CAN use a non HP-UX server as an NFS share for sharing images.

But to run Ignite, you have no options other than a system running HP-UX.

You can use Ignite to create your own media for installation, if that helps. See Chapter 11 of the Admin Guide:
