pvcreate problem

Hi,
I had reconfig LUN size in va7110 with LUN 0 20mb & LUN 1 250gb.Now i have this problem:
#pvcreate-fb /dev/rdsk/c6t0d1 pvcreate: The physical volume "/dev/dsk/c6t0d1" is already recorded in the "/etc/lvmtab" file.

I use sam -> Disk and File Systems want to create vg01,still can't work out...

How to fix it than let me can assign LUN 1 to vg01 ?

did not get the real thing out here...
Anyways, ff you have reconfirgured the size why u doing pvcreate a reboot should take new size
[which is ur OS verion].

IF you want to use this LUN in a separate VG, remove LUN from existing VG and then do pvcreate it would work.

As of now this device is present in a VG and hence the problem.

Re: pvcreate problem

OK, you deleted and created this LUN on the VA, but you did not delete the VG on the server.

Now vgexport the VG and start over.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: pvcreate problem

Sorry,i don't describe it clearly...
My OS version is 11iv1.
Before use command "armfmt & armcfg" to reconfig LUN Size,i rm /dev/vg01/*
Now use pvcreate /dev/rdsk/c6t0d1 or use sam to create volume group, the system show its recorded in the /etc/lvmtab.
Even though i rm /etc/lvmtab,than use vgscan -a -v or vgchange -a y ,still have this problem...

Re: pvcreate problem

Hello,

>#strings /etc/lvmtab
/dev/vg00
/dev/dsk/c1t2d0
/dev/dsk/c2t2d0
/dev/vg01
/dev/dsk/c6t0d1
/dev/dsk/c0t8d0

So your volume is already on vg00.

You must remove (Export, recreate vg00) it from the existing VG and then do export, pvcreate/vgcreate vg01.

Re: pvcreate problem

Jinghan,
Seems to be vg01 was created earlier with va7110 disk and still there after re-allocation.
To redo pvcreate on c6t0d1 , this needs to be removed from lvmtab first , then you can do pvcreate.

To do this you need to export unused vg01 , and try again.

# vgdisplay vg01
# vgexport -v vg01
# strings /etc/lvmtab

- Now check with ioscan for the disk c6t0d1.
- you can pvcreate now, and go with vg creation.

Hth,
Raj.

Re: pvcreate problem

Is this disk mirrored, if yes then i suppose you can just reduce your vg
aand then can pvcreate.
