setboot problem

Hello Guys,
I have tried to set on a partition of Superdome Itanium the cdrom as alternate path, but I have the following problem:

HP-UX:/#setboot -a 0/0/11/1/0.2.0
setboot: error accessing boot path - Invalid argument

any ideas?

Re: setboot problem

insert a cd in the CDROM and see if you can read , maybe your current user does not have permissions to access the drive.. besides that . should be straightfoward
even ur path looks ok..

Re: setboot problem

Mount a cd and ensure you are able to access. Try issue setboot command, when the CD is mounted ..... this may work ... just a guess .... I dont have a machine available to test.

Re: setboot problem

Giacome,

Why would you make the cd an alternate path.
You only boot from cd when you want a clean install or has trouble with the root disks.
If you have those troubles you put the cd in the superdoom and boot from it the normal way you boot from cd.

Re: setboot problem

You mentioned about partion.. what is it . an nPar ? Have a look at the following document: http://docs.hp.com/en/B3920-90091/ch02s06.html

Which says "systems with hardware partitions support a boot action for each path. However, the boot action for the paths other than the primary path cannot be set using setboot. Instead, these must be set through the Boot Console Handler using the pf command."

Hope this helps
