Probook 6440b cannot detect modem in Linux

I'm using Fedora10 and Ubuntu Jaunty in Probook 6440b (two machines). But both machines also cannot detect the built-in modem. Any driver that i can download from the centre? or the modem cant support for both Fedora and Ubuntu. If there is a way to enable it, what is the steps?

Shalom,

linuxdrivers-org might have what you need.

See the manufacturer website to get the details on the modem. Then you might be able to get proper drivers from the modem makers website.

modem you first would need to know the exact modem-hardware. bring up windows and then device-manager to verify the exact hardware.

once you know the modem manufacturer, then simply hit the ubuntu web-site for help, or google it.

also, if you are using a external modem to usb or modem pcmcia card, like a wireless card, these also use the Modem drivers. hint to google these too.. for helpful Forums.

Re: Probook 6440b cannot detect modem in Linux

I spent 10 minutes, but I can't find the manufacturer or model of the modem anywhere. I suspect it is some sort of Win-Modem, which will make it awfully difficult to get it running under Linux.

One reference (and only one) I found was that Red Hat was supported in PRC. But otherwise, this seems to be a Window7 or FreeDOS only machine (which again supports the Win-Modem) theory.

Re: Probook 6440b cannot detect modem in Linux

I use a scanModem program which is download from Linmodems and found that my modem is from Agere. So i download the driver which is same with my kernel (2.6.30) and follow the instruction to install the driver. After a successful installation and when i run it, it still said cant detect modem and from the dmesg there is an ERR state that "Type = 0x31 ERROR: Control Interface failed". What is this mean?

Another problem is I tried to disable the internal modem in BIOS then enable it back, however, when i untick the checkbox of the modem, then after restart, the modem checkbox has disappear. How can i enable back the modem? Is there any restore default?
