Re: DS10 keyboard hangs during image Backup
This keyboard hand does not look like (to me from your update) caused by BACKUP
>> When I am taking an image backup of my AlphaServer Ds10(Open VMS 7.3 plateform) m/c and starts it to boot with a VMS bootable CD
Taking image BACKUP and booting VMS from CD are two different activities. You can not backup while booting or you can not boot while performing BACKUP. Did you mean, while performing BACKUP you see keyboard hang where the machine is booted from VMS bootable CD? You update is not so clear to me.

When do you see a problem with the keyboard ?
Do you mean
You have taken image backup of the disk and are booting the system with that
disk ?
OR
You are booting a system with VMS bootable CD ?

Looks like after system reboot, the problem with the keyboard goes away and
you are able to boot the system.
What do you mean by backup in this context ?
The problem descirption given by you is not so clear. You need to explain in
more detail about the problem you are facing so that we can provide a solution.

Re: DS10 keyboard hangs during image Backup
For taking the image backup I use the following process.
1) I give command
@sys$system:shutdown after that >>> comes
Now i boot the m/c with a bootable Open VMS CD (so that i could take the image backup of whole Disk/Server)
As i give the command
>>> boot dqa0(dqa0= logical name of CD ROM drive)
Booting through CD starts after some time it asks to fill date/Time
DD-MMM-YYYY HH:MM
At this situtaion I am unable to write Date/Time & I forced to reset the machine. After reseting i am able to set date /Time and proceed further

Re: DS10 keyboard hangs during image Backup
Let me take a guess.
m/c = Machine
Looks like we are talking about system boot rather than image backup.

Re: DS10 keyboard hangs during image Backup
Just a guess. Is this problem related to the problem that you have discussed in the below thread?

Re: DS10 keyboard hangs during image Backup
What is the value of the srm console.
>>> show console
This needs to match the hardware.

Solution>>> init
I have sometimes this problem
- shutdown
- boot
when asking date/time : no response from the keyboard
When I do an init before booting, generally, I don't have the problem.
DS10/console graphics/last firmware

Re: DS10 keyboard hangs during image Backup
Does this problem fixed at you end or are you still facing the same problem. Did you try INIT before booting the machine as other said in the thread? Please do let us know about that.

Ketan
