I am glad that the presentation was helpful.
As Volker has commented, there is a wide range of possible devices, different revisions, and utilities. Some permit one to increase the size of the container, others do not.
Certainly, if the device permits the container to be increased, and OpenVMS recognizes the change, SET VOLUME/LIMIT can be used.
The presentation scenario was designed to simultaneously presume the least from the storage device, and the most that OpenVMS could do. In particular, a common scenario is migrating from direct attached storage to an array, or from array to array, without any support inherent in the storage subsystem.
