How to migrate UAF accounts
I need to migrate several hundreds of UAF user records/accounts from a VAX VMS 7.1 to the Alpha VMS 7.2-1 system.
Is there a way to automate this process?
I'm trying to avoid manual creation of user accounts on the Alpha machine.
I can not simply replace the UAF file on Alpha, because I already have a large number of user accounts there.
Any ideas ?
TIA

Re: How to migrate UAF accounts
copy the SYSUAF to the alpha but call it OLDUAF.DAT. You can copy records from OLDUAF to the SYSUAF on the alpha. I've done this using a simple loop in DCL and with the MERGE command, depending on the circumstances.

Re: How to migrate UAF accounts
As a general point Do seriously consider joining the current century by upgrading to a current VMS version. There are a lots of hidden costs in staying that far behind.

Re: How to migrate UAF accounts
TIA,
Concur with Ian's comments. I will also caution that there are at least two more important steps:
- ensure that the UICs are unique on the two systems
- also merging RIGHTSLIST
One should also check into the the use of Proxies and other things before just merging the files. It is far easier to fix UIC assignments and other things BEFORE merging the files.
