One of the problems states:
1. Mount a shadow set with 3 or 6 member( no HBMMpolicy)
2. Create 6 minicopy bitmaps by dismounting themembers & adding them again after running init.
3. Dismount the shadow set. Now the 6 minicopy bitmaps will show "dmt" in "percent populated" field. Mount the shadow set again with all members and with " /pol=minicopy " qualifier, the system will crash.
MIND THE NUMBERS.
I thought a 6-member shadow set is a 8.4 issue, so wouldn't this couse a problem on an 8.3 machine (What happens to my NDA with this announcement :))

Solutionif this would be a backport of a problem seen during V8.4 development, the text may be the one from the original problem report.
According to the text, the problem can be seen both with 3 and 6 (V8.4 only) shadowset members. The number '6' for the mini-copy bitmaps is not related to any V8.4 feature.
The planned features for the upcomfing OpenVMS V8.4 fieldtest is 'public information' by now:

Re: SHADOWING-0004
I thought this was V8.4 too, but maybe it's made its way into a backport? Simple to test, just install the patch and attempt to add a 4th member into a shadow set. Worst case it will say no, and it might even work! :-)
