Good morning, Could someone tell me if it is possible to create x2 Server partitions on a single ES47 Server (tower system) with one partition booting from its own HP-UX O/S drive and the other booting from OpenVMS O/S disk (with each partition self contained with its own memory/processors/network cards/Storage) and if so, what would be the minimum no of cores required on the Base Server to facilitate that kind of configuration ?

SolutionPaolo,
a web search quickly leads to this document:
http://www.rbvi.ucsf.edu/Resources/gs1280/gs1280_ts.pdf
which contains the following sentence:
All systems include support for hard partitions (excluding the
ES47 tower system).

ES47 is an Enterprise Class Alpha Server and it does not support HP-UX O/S (which works only for PA Risc and Itanium platforms). The only Unix you can run is Tru64 (without support and no longer in development for more than a decade).
All ES47 systems require the following minimum firmware and software revisions to run hard partitions (excluding the ES47 tower system):
Minimum Firmware console rev: V6.5-8
Tru64 UNIX: V5.1B + Patch kit - T64V51BB22AS0002-20030415.tar
OpenVMS: V7.3-1 + TIMA Kits (available at http://h18003.www1.hp.com/alphaserver/gs1280/gs1280_tech.html
DEC-AVPVMS-VMS731_PARTITIONING-V0100-4.PCSI
AVPVMS-VMS731_PARTITIONING-V0100_CVRLET
AVPVMS-VMS731_PARTITIONING-V0100_SUBFORM
PS: VSI has released OpenVMS for Alpha V8.4-2L1 on January 2017 and OpenVMS V8.4-2L2 on June 2017 (a modified release of VSI OpenVMS Alpha V8.4-2L1; it has been optimized to take advantage of architectural features such as byte and word memory reference instructions, and floating-point improvements, which are available only in AlphaServer EV6 or later processors. This optimized release improves performance by taking advantage of faster hardware-based instructions that were previously emulated in software. NOTE: VSI OpenVMS Alpha V8.4-2L2 will not work on, and is not supported on, AlphaServer pre-EV6 systems). Both releases are in standard support from VSI.
