Changing a machine from one switch to another
Hi there,
I got a problem, that seems easy to solve but I can't find a solution...
I have 2 switches, a 2510G-24 (getting the uplink) connected to a 2610-24 (just connected with an ethernet cable, no stacking here), some machine are connected to the 2610 and I want to move them to the 2510G, so physically I just have to move the cable, it can be done in seconds. But when I try this, the 2510G (receiving switch) don't want to update its mac<->port table in less than the mac-age-time that I can't set to <60s. So the machine I move is offline for 1MN, then everything work again, and if I just move the machine from one port to another port of the same switch, the switch spot the change in few seconds. Any idea ?

Re: Changing a machine from one switch to another
If an Interface goes down the (same) switch will notice that and can remove the old MAC Address instantly.
And in this case we have a broadcast situation to get the new port.
In the other case, if you move from another switch, then there is no notification that the old address has gone offline.
So the switch knows the old port and "sees" no reason for a broadcast because it thinks it has the correct path.
