Disable disks on Gen10 Array Controllers

Hi,

we need to disable some disks temporarily in our ProLiant DL380 Gen10 servers, but the array controllers are set to mixed mode, which cannot be disabled. With previous array controllers, it was apparently possible to make certain disks invisible to the OS simply by leaving them unassigned from an array, but now with Gen10 some greedy 3rd party installation ISO always grabs all available disks, which is what we need to prevent.

I was able to "hide" the HDD's by defining them as spares, but for SSD's that workaround doesn't apply.

Is there any solution other than physically removing SSD's during the installation?

Any hint would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards, Andreas

Re: Disable disks on Gen10 Array Controllers

Hello,

We cannot change to RAID or HBA mode like the previous generation of servers.

As you mentioned, you can physically remove the unwanted drives and re-add them after the OS installation is complete.
