HP ProLiant DL185 G5 boot issue

I have an HP ProLiant DL185 G5 server with 3 logical arrays.

A few days ago one of the drives in slot 1 failed so I replaced the drive and checked in the ORCA which advised the logical drive was running a recovery.

The LED lights on the drive appeared to show it was going through a rebuild of the array.

After 24 hours the ORCA now advises the logical drive is OK but when rebooting the server now get two errors on the POST boot :

1716 error- Slot 1 Drive array - Unrecoverable media error detection on drives during previous rebuild or background surface analysis(ARM) scan. Error will be fixed automatically when the sectors are overwritten. (Backup and restore recommended).

1720-Slot 1 Drive Array - S.M.A.R.T. Hard Drive(s) Detect Imminent Failure SCSI: Port 3I: Bays 1,2.

There is an amber light flashing on both Hard Drives slots 1 and 2

The server will also not boot into Windows Server 2003 gets to the flash screen and then it reboots itself

My question is the ORCA utlity is saying the Logical drives are OK but the Disks are physically advising there is an issue with them and that they need to be replaced even though I only replaced one recently???

Will I need to replace both?

Do I need to do one at a time?

Will Windows Server 2003 need to be reinstalled?

Thanks

Peter

Since the controller turns the led on, I would suspect the controller. I think I have seen this before, but not sure.

Hope this helps!

Hi

Could you explain?

Is the controller physical or is this software?

Thanks

Peter

The Smart Array controller card that connects the disks to the system (maybe a SA6402 or something).

Hope this helps!
