Secure Encryption Drives

Hi Everyone,

What will happen to the secure encryption drives that are already setup in a server if the raid controller dies?

I really need to understand where and when the client will be able to see and physically record the encryption key. I can assume it is logically stored somewhere in the BIOS or TPM chip or elsewhere so I just need to know that the client will be presented the key in such a way that makes it obvious that it is an encryption key and that they should record it.

Re: Self Encrypting Drives

I guess it depends on whether the server or controller stores the key.

What model server and raid controller do you have?

Re: Self Encrypting Drives

that was for any raid controller that would support secure drive enrycption and I got an answer from HP below,

All they would have to do is install a new Smart Array that supports encryption. The same keys would work. The encryption data is stored on the drives.

 Best Regards,
