8dot3 filename creation
I have a pair of NAS2000S, set up by someone who has now left the company, which has registry NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation set to 1 (i.e. don't create 8.3 filenames). Is there any special reason for doing this on HP NAS 2000 - or can I safely change it ?

Re: 8dot3 filename creation
Graham,
Microsoft NTFS 8.3 file name support was disabled on the StorageWorks NAS 2000s to improve performance of the Storage server. The next NAS Service Release will provide an option to enable 8.3 file name support.

Re: 8dot3 filename creation
Presumably changing the registry setting will only slow it down (how much?), not cause any other unwanted side-effects ?
