Ultrium 7-SCSI - Problem associated with loading or unloading of cartridge

Hello Community,

We are facing issues with a tape drives since few month.

The error in Tape and Drive Tools indicate "Ultrium 7-SCSI - Problem associated with loading or unloading of cartridge" 

The drive seats inside a MSL2024 library. We update drivers for both Library and Drive but still failing to read/write on tapes. The running OS is Windows 2012 R2.

Hi MToto,

Is there any error / message on the RMI console of this MSL2024 when the backup fails?
Is there any amber LED on the MSL unit?
What is the firmware installed for the MSL & Tape Drives?
Is the issue specific to any particular tapes or all tapes?
Is this specific to backup jobs or restore jobs or both?
Which software is used for backup?


General Recommendations:
- Check for any issues with all the media being used.
- Are these  HPE Branded Tapes?
- Discard excessively used tapes, if any.
- Clean the Tape Drive using an unexpired cleaning tape for 1-2 times and check.
