Problem with mnttab

Hi All,

Recently my upgrade from 11i v2 to v3 failed due to timeout of my tty session. Now, I'm trying to start the system to run level 3 from the old kernel. But, during the booting process(from the old kernel as the new kernel doesn't boots) i get the below error.

Password cannot be changed. Reason: Cannot access protected password entry.

# mount -a
mount: Cannot stat /etc/mnttab: Invalid argument
# echo $?
1
# mountall
mountall: can't fix /etc/mnttab
# echo $?
1

I cannot mount any filesystem and do not want to restore the system from ignite backup. Please, help me guys.

If the upgrade failed, I'm not sure that it is worth the time of trying to fix the system.

I honestly think you would be better off recovering the system from your Ignite backup and then retry the upgrade.

The better way to do this would be to use DRD (Dynamic root disk) to clone your boot disk, then attempt your upgrade again.  If it fails you can then just boot from the clone disk and you are back up and running again.
