The last command reads the login/logout records from /var/adm/wtmps (wtmp for older versions of HP-UX).  This is a binary file and cannot be edited without corrupting the contents. You'll need to create a new, empty wtmps file or restore the file from previous backups.

How important is this info?  If not, just scratch the file.
