SA100 Help..

Any kind soles out there willing to walk me through setting the SA1100 up?? I can get to the web interface and I can FTP by IP number to it as well as use e-mail(send and receive through the domain name) but can not get to it by name through the browser.. I am not a network guru and am really confused now..

Re: SA100 Help..

Sounds like you don't have a domain name pointed to your IP yet, do you?

Re: SA100 Help..

Gregg,

Thanks for replying... Not sure what you are saying.. I added a valid domain with that IP number to the domain list.. However, I did notice on a Whois that the name servers are reversed.. Primar listed as secondary & vice versa.. Don't know how that affects anything.. My understanding is that it shouldn't - don't know that for a fact though...But, It may be a moot point now as I am getting no response from the machine at all - Just happened, I guess - will go to the location in the morning and reboot as I can not even access the web interface now.

Thanks again

Re: SA100 Help..

The question is where is the dns pointing. You need a domain. The domain then needs dns. ( you are correct on the primary and secondary - they do not matter in order) The dns must point at your IP address of your server. Your server must be set up for your domain.

On the dns, are you pointing your www.domain.com to your ip or domain.com? The best way is to point domain.com and it possible *.domain.com. You would remove the *.domain.com and replace it with subdomains if you put the subdomains on different ips.

The server must be set up to handle what ever you are pointing at it. If you are pointing www.domain.com, you must set it up that way. If you are pointing domain.com, it needs to be set up. If you point *.domain.com, it can be either way.

Re: SA100 Help..

OK.. I can get to my default domain through the browser now.. Added www.to the domain name.. was just using domain.com .. I assume the DNS was pointinhg to www.domain.com.. www.domain.com works now..

Now, when I add a new domain, do I use the same IP and netmask as the default domain?? My Co-Locator dosen't want me to use IP addresses if I can get away with it.. Do I have to have DNS enabled on the SA1100 and do I use www.domain.com as the domain name or just domain.com??? Is there any other setting I have to be cautious of??

Your help is REALLY appriciated

Re: SA100 Help..

Well, just wanted to let everyone know that I have my SA1100 up and runnung, hosting sites and using mail - FTP - Telnet - the whole nine yards.. Have not tried DNS yet as my co-lo has no problem serving as DNS.. So bottom line is this thing does work.. Don't know about the security issues but, suppose that unless HP issues a software update we will have to live with it.. But for the price, what can you expect??
