Customer has a vcenter server 5.5 running on Windows Server 2012 and has registered the vcenter plugin in Nimble GUI successfully.
However when they try to use the plugin in vcenter client, then during initialisation of the plugin it fails to gather datastore information before failing with the following message:
Following tasks failed:
Getting datastore information: Web server unreachable. If this occurred during a failover or planned outage, wait a minute and then refresh the GUI. If the server does not become reachable in a few minutes, contact Nimble Storage support.
Thought I would try to ask the question here in case anyone has seen it before we log it with support.
Solved! Go to Solution.

Re: Getting datastore information: Web Server unreachable
Is the plugin listed as enabled within vCenter? Do you know if FQDN or IP were used to register the plugin?

Re: Getting datastore information: Web Server unreachable
Hi, yes the plugin is listed in VMware and enabled. When you check the status in Nimble GUI, it shows registered.
The vcenter ip was used because DNS has not been set up yet. Would be interesting to see if it works when DNS is set up in case it is a host name resolution thing.
Added host entry on the vcenter server for the nimble, but still same issue.

Re: Getting datastore information: Web Server unreachable
hmm...one thing worth trying is to close VI Client and then come back in. If that still does not work, It could be one of the services not started from the array side - could you log a case with support and have them verify it through tunnel?

Re: Getting datastore information: Web Server unreachable
We tried that. closed the vi client and re-opened. Also tried a vi client on another machine. Customer has now moved the system to the datacentre so now has DNS so will see if that helps. If not, he will log a support case. When I know the resolution, I will post it here.

Re: Getting datastore information: Web Server unreachable
It could be a hung webserver (jetty service) on the active controller. Have you tried a fail-over? That would re-start the services on the standby and might clear it up. The other thing that might be happening is firewalls. Do you have a firewall between vCenter and the Nimble array blocking ports?

Re: Getting datastore information: Web Server unreachable
Hi Further to my previous comments regarding this issue, I have observed this on two other occasions with different customers. Both of these times, it was resolved by ensuring the following:
Ensure DNS settings in Nimble are defined correctly
Ensure DNS entry for Nimble and vCenter server are in DNS.
When registering the vcenter plugin, use the FQDN instead of IP address in the server field.
Hope it works for anyone else observing the issue.
