Does each expansion shelf have it's own RAID group?

Does each shelf have its own RAID-6 HDDs and a hot spare?

Yes, each shelf has its own independent RAID group, and its own dedicated hot spare HDD.

  • The current configuration of each shelf is 12 Data HDDs + 1 SSD + 2 RAID-6 HDDs + 1 hot spare HDD (16 drives total.)
  • There is no sharing of parity or spare HDDs across shelves.
