IBM AIX Deployment Considerations
The goal of this guide is to assist the reader in designing, planning, and installing Nimble storage with the IBM AIX operating system. The IBM Power Systems server platform uses PowerVM, a proprietary hypervisor-based virtualization engine, to run and provision resources to logical partitions (LPARs) (virtual machines). The IBM hypervisor is different from other software-based hypervisors that run on x86 servers: It is a machine-level interface that is controlled by the Hardware Management Console (HMC). The HMC, a Linux-based appliance, controls PowerVM servers and is used to manage software and partitioning. It also manages the virtualization of external storage, networks, and devices that are connected to LPARs.
