Nimble iSCSI gateway & routing

We are currently migrating from vSphere 6.5 to vSphere 8.0 using cold migraiton to nimble storage.  How do I setup routing or gateway on the iSCSI interfaces on the Nimble storage?  This is temporary so that I can present the LUN to existing 6.5 vSphere.  VSphere 6.5 iSCSI and vSphere 8.0 iSCSI are not on the same subnets.  Any ideas?

Re: Nimble iSCSI gateway & routing

Hi,

HPE Nimble does support routing or a gateway for iscsi interfaces, and does not have any inbuilt migration tools. I would highly advise against it, as introducing routing to ISCSI network may also incur un-necessary latency and complications to environment setup.

Storage vMotion is what we usually recommend.

Can you please explain in detail on your plans for cold migration ?

Re: Nimble iSCSI gateway & routing

vCenter version on both sides are not compatible with each other therefore we can't do storage vmotion.  We try to avoid upgrading vcenter. This is just temporary setup so we can do cold migration for VMs from 3PAR to PCBE.  We want to present new datastore created on PCBE and present it to both vSphere.  We simply  vmotion VMs to that LUN and remove VM from vSphere from one side and add VM to inventory on the other vSphere while the VM is off.

How do I add routing or gateway for iSCSI interfaces?

Re: Nimble iSCSI gateway & routing

Okay, understood.
You may add from array UI by navigating to administration > Network> Configure Active Settings > Click 'Save as Draft' on right hand side top.
Then Edit> Under Routes tab, you should be able to gateway.

As mentioned, this is not a officially supported configuration/method. Please do at your own risk.
