Cpu usage 100% no programs running
Hey Guys, has anyone ever had a problem like this?
4 week old Evo d310 running 2k pro with the 2.4 P IV 845g and 256 MB DDR
is locked at 100%. I can go in in safe mode and it drops to normal. In task mgr, System is using 99% and when I utilize another program it will subtract from system..and then after terminating the app it will return to 99% at system. rebooted the workstation various times and nothing..it began as i was reinstalling roxio easy cd creator after it errorred out during my attempts to back-up on DVD.It wont do a disc clean-up on my C: now...I really dont want to do a restore which is what the geniuses at compaq are telling me...any ideas fellows?

Re: Cpu usage 100% no programs running
Boot to safe mode and go to Run > type "msconfig" (without the "")
go to system.ini & win.ini tabs and click on "disable All"
go to the Services tab, click on "Hide all Microsoft Services". This will display any 3rd party services that have been installed on the system. Disable the all.
Finally go to startup and disable everything.
Reboot into Normal mode & try again. If the problem doesn't occur - you've narrowed it down to one of these things & it's a matter of re-enabling each of them until you get it.
Alternatively, since it does not occur in Safe mode, it could be driver related.
I think Roxio drops items into the startup folders / run key to execute upon startup & these can cause probs sometimes.
Regards,
Dave.

Life would be so much easier if we just had the source code.
