free or cheap visual basic development environment software

Dear All,

I am wondering if there are free visual basic development software to download, something cheap is OK too. I would like to fresh up my visual basic database programing skills by playing in my home PC.

I had used visual basic studio during my previous employment and it costed around $2000.

Found this article in developer.com that addresses your very issue. Want to do some VB programming but don't want to spend a large sum of money just learn VB.

Their advice is basically to download:

* The Microsoft .NET Framework Redistributable Package
* The Microsoft .NET Framework Software Development Kit (SDK)

I've played a little with VB in the past and I did not require the Visual Studio.

Visual Basic 2005 Express edition is free to buy (100% discount) until November 2006.

I have tried the SDK and it is so plain and I have to use notepad to write code ( no money, no honey :-)

aleady visited Miscrosoft web and saw the vb2005 express edition, they need to ship the trial DVD in several days with shipping fee. Anyplace to download directly?

Do I just simply download each file and put them into one directory c:\vb6? will try it later.
