Re: USB conversion
There are no USB updates avaialble on the HP website
http://productfinder.support.hp.com/tps/ProductFinder?h_tool=prodhomes%2Csoftware&h_lang=en&h_query=5295&Submit.x=6&Submit.y=2
so I expect you are stuck with 1.1 but 2.0 is backwards compatible so it shouldn't matter that much.

Re: USB conversion
You can add a PC Card that has USB 2.0 capabilities. You cannot upgrade the existing USB controller because it is built-in. Belkin and Adaptec both have USB 2.0 products.
As for compatibility, with USB not being a standard but a specification, there are no guarantees that devices will work. There are three USB specifications, 1.0, 1.1 and 2.0. They have also used three different controller chips, UHCI, OHCI and EHCI. Add all the different operating systems and most companies do not even fully test their products. 1.0 and 1.1 were not very tight on the specifications, which is evident in the number of USB devices that didn???t work. 2.0 is suppose to be much better.
