XP WORD INSERT KEY

In previous versions of Word, when you hit the insert key, the overwrite(OVR) would turn on and off. In XP Word, that does not work. Is there some setup option that has to be changed to get this to work? or has that ability been taken away?

Re: XP WORD INSERT KEY

Jeff,

OVR toggles on and off, as it should, in my copy of Word XP. (The OVR indicator in the status bar is either bright or grayed out.) As far as I know, it is a default setting.

Perhaps you have a non-standard keyboard?

Does the Insert key work in other apps?

Re: XP WORD INSERT KEY

Check "tools / options / edit" to see if "Typing replaces selection" and "Overtype mode" are enabled and "Use the INS key for paste" is disabled.

Jeff

It also works fine on my XP version also. When you find out how to turn it back on, please let me know - I want to turn my insert key off.
