Help with Virtual Connect Stacking links
Dennis had a customer problem with stacking Virtual Connect modules:
******************************************************************************
Hi,
I have just installed a couple of new VC-Flex10 modules into my c7000 enclosure running OA v3.1 and VC v3.01.
I am getting a stacking link failure and have no internal links shown between the VC-Flex10 modules in bay1 &2.
I noted this entry in the release notes
After an enclosure import, the Virtual Connect CLI Interface will show the Stacking Links "Connections Status" as: "Failed" until all modules have been initialized. This may take up to 30 seconds depending on the actual configuration
After resetting both VC-Flex10 modules I still have the stacking link failure.
Can anyone tell me how to debug this?
*********************************************************************************
Dave asked some questions:
*************************************************************************
Dennis,
The first question would be:
Are there SFPs plugged into ports 7 or 8 of either Flex-10 modules in bays 1 & 2?
If you plug in an SFP into port 7 or 8(even without a cable), the SFP will shutdown the internal paths and break the built in ‘Stacking Links’. If you need one of these ports, then use the same on both modules( 7 & 7 or 8 & 8). I’ve had sites try redundancy with one in bay 1 port 7 & bay 2 port 8, which will shutdown both internal links.
Leaving one port empty will leave a 10g pipe. Leaving both ports 7 & 8 on both modules empty will give a 20g pipe.
************************************************************************
Dennis replied to Dave:
************************************************************************
Hi Dave,
Yes I have got SFP’s in those slots, thanks for the info.
********************************************************************
This may be Dennis' problem. At least a good place to start. Any other ideas?

Re: Help with Virtual Connect Stacking links
I know this is an old thread, but I have this same issue, but do not have SFP's connected in these ports... I've deleted the domain (no active load on this chassis currently) and recreated it, but there's still no connection available.
Anyone have any ideas?

Re: Help with Virtual Connect Stacking links
The question (and solution) is if there are SFP modules in slots 7 and 8 in de VC modules yes or no... If there are SFP's, even without cable plugged in, the internal links are disabled...
So if there are no SFP's in X7 and X8 you should see the internal stacking link...
Kr,
Bart

Re: Help with Virtual Connect Stacking links
I also have the same problem. Two new Flex-10, no SFP+ inserted, only 10G CX4 cable connected to HP5406zl switch.
Any help will be really appreciated.

Re: Help with Virtual Connect Stacking links
What firmware for the VC-Flex10s?
HP has recommended to usas of last week 3.18 -- NOT the latest 3.30.

Re: Help with Virtual Connect Stacking links
Having the same issue with the latest firmware, 4.41, there are no SFP in 7 or 8. Anyone ever figure this out?
