Smart Array P741m move Array from Blade A to Blade B

Hello

we have BL460 Gen9 Blades with Smart Array P741m SAS Controller, further SAS Switches and D2600/D2700 Enclosures.

Now, A typical blade has 4 Logical Drives Containing Data Arrays. However, I'd like to move a specific array to another Blade. If I disconnect a Disk from Blade A and reconnect the same Disk to Blade B (we use Port level SAS Switching) then the Logical Array in Saver Blade A shows failing (ake sense to me since the disk disapeared) and the disk shows as new (empty) disk on Blade B.

Blade B though, does not detect any Array information on the disk. If I create a new array (same config) over the disk, the containing filesystem re-apears but is heavily damaged (potentially a repair can work but I did not go this route yet) if I evidentially reconnect this disk to Blade A, the Logocal Drive re-apears and works just fine.

Is there any special magic I can apply to move a functional Logical Drive between blades by reassigning a disk in the sas switch?

I have not tested so far if pulling the disk and using a different slot could work, but I can try that also.

Would be interested in any thoughts and help on this matter.

Thanks

Re: Smart Array P741m move Array from Blade A to Blade B

Hello,

The assignment of a hard drive that is part of an array, assigned to one server, to another server directly is not a supported way of assigning hard drive from D2600/D2700 enclosure.

When a drive is part of an array, RAID Information Sector (RIS) data tells, to which controller and to which RAID level it is part of. Swapping of all disks, which have been configured as an array, from one server all together, to another server mirroring the position they had in the server from which they have been moved, should result in an intact RAID array.

The way it has been narrated, I have not known so far.

Regards,
