Emergency Technical Help
Hi There. I really need help.
I use compaq presario 5260
I bought cable last week for the computers at home. 2 laptops and my compaq. They installed ethernet card to my compaq; it can use network i mean I can get files from other laptopts but I can't use the internet. Erm what I mean is I can use the network but my computer doesn't take an aoutomatic ip address which will help me to use cable's internet over network.
I need heLp abouT this subject.

Erm...
You do have a contract with an Internet Service Provider, do you? Normally you do not connect from home to internet with a net cable, you need a modem, cable modem or something like that. Then the ISP can help you to configure the connection correctly.

Normally the cable companies only want you to connect a single PC to their network. Often they register the MAC of the PC they first connect up to and that is the only one which will work until you call them and ask them to change it.
