Internet cannot display web page

I have a new Hp laptop, and this summer, I had no problem connecting to netgear, or an unsecured network. I moved to france, and could not connect to the family's wireless network. But, I could still use netgear when I got here. They installed "live box" (their network) to my computer, but I was never able to connet fully to the internet. I could access limewire and yahoo IM, but nothing else. I uninstalled the program, but now I am unable to connect to an unsecured network. I don't know what to do.

What OS are you using? Is your family network Secure or Unsecure?
