Jet Direct
I have a Jetdirect J2552A card (firmware v A.03.06) in a DesignJet 600. I am trying to connect to my network (XP SP2).
When I use Install Network printer Wizard, It can't find the card unless I manually set the IP address, Subnet mask and Gateway with the plotter keypad. Then all is ok until the last step when I get a failure message-"Unable to install the printer. Please power cycle your printer and, if applicable, the external Jetdirect print server. Then restart this application. If you need more details, click 'More Information'." I think it may be because the firmware is not current (v A.05.05)
I tried to update the firmware with download manager. Again it can't find the card unless I manually enter the IP address, etc. The download manager fails with an error "Invalid set community name"
I tried to set the community name to public with telnet. I can access the card and access the parementers but cannot set the community name.
I printed out the configuration pages. with config by front panel it lists Ip, Subnet, gateway, syslog server and Idletimeout only. With bootp it lists an IP and gateway of 192.0.0.192, subnet mask not specified, idletimeout and SNMP GET CMNTY NAME of ALL, SNMP SET CMTY NAME of NONE, a BOOTP SERVER of 0.0.0.0 and a blank CONFIG FILE
I am way past my level of expertise in this matter. Any suggestions

Re: Jet Direct
Hi,
I suggest you setup IP address of your JetDirect card manually form plotter's keypad. Then on you WinXP, you must setup a "local" printer by adding a new printer port with standard TCP/IP port in your printer's IP address.
regards,
Steven Chan
