Multiport W200 users, please help!!

Currently have a EVO N610C laptop with Multiport W200 wireless Lan card. I was having intermitent problems when resuming from either Sleep or Hibernate modes and decided to check on Compaq's Web Site for newers Drivers/SW. I found a new driver version SP27295 and downloaded. Ran the wizard, but it didn't even gave me a chance to stop the installation, it simply installed the new driver and client manager.

Since the installation, I'm unable to turn the Wireless Card on. I've tried all sorts of things, even uninstalled everything, removed the card and started all over with the original CD, but I have given up. The SW and driver is installed, but the card is no recognized when installed. When I press Fn-F2, I can hear a sound, but nothing happens, and under Devide Manager, there is no Wireless Network Adapter anymore.
Any clues?

I'm running Windows XP SP1. The most amazing thing is that it was working and now it is not even recognizing the card anymore

This might be a blind alley, sorry, and Philip Doragh seems to be an expert in the area, but he said in a different thread (http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=535772):

Sounds like you are installing the incorrect driver set...there were two WLAN multiport modules...the first used a PRISM chipset from Intersil while the second used a Hermes chipset from Agere. You can most easily tell the difference by looking at the silk screening on the side. The PRISM module just has "Wireless LAN" while the Agere Hermes module has "Wireless LAN W200".

If you have the Prism use the following links:

http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/EvoNotebook/us/download/14394.html

If you have the Agere use the following link:

"

Might be applicable! Hope you don't mind being quoted Mr Doragh!

Re: Multiport W200 users, please help!!

Hi fernando,

It cud be a driver problem. Pls remove the software using regedit and also remove the program directory manually if applicable. Freshly install the s/w again. You can use regcleaner utility for selectively uninstalling / cleaning the program registry entries.

Also delete the inf files related to this card from windows-inf dir.

Since it was working till u install the new driver there shudnt be any scope for hardware related issue.

Anyway nothing to loose for trying the above.

Re: Multiport W200 users, please help!!

Thanks guys for the response. Since I'd written this thread a couple of months ago, the problem has been resolved. I basically uninstalled everything (registry entries as well) and it came back live again.

I now found that sometimes the only way my card can recognize my wireless LAN at home is by removing the power cable from my Linksys BEFW11S4 router (since it does not have a power switch) and restarting the router.

Thus I think this has to do with my router. Has anyone encoutered this problem before, more specifically with Linksys wireless routers?
