NC8000 Wireless tab missing?

Hi, we've got over a dozen of these 8000NC models running around our office and they work hard wired here and wireless at home. One of them was working fine for months then along came a Java issue that required us to remove java and reinstall. This killed our wireless connection (wasn't visible under available networks any more) so I downloaded the latest drivers from Hp along with the ABG driver and Bluetooth. Now under properties of my wireless connection I no longer have the "Wireless networks" tab? It's vanished and replaced with "Authentication" still no available networks..... :-(

No warnings in device Mangler, and all I can see different is that Blue tooth is saying that "authentication is required" for the network function now, so I disabled the service/rebooted (that did not work) then uninstalled Bluetooth/rebooted (also did not work). No option here for tuning the "authentication required" off in blue tooth network.

P.S. after this I called HP and was on hold for 4 "let me check" items, 45 minutes and this is the answer I got at then end: If something is different then only recourse is to do a quick restore "the global answer these days" Case # 3206144796.

Any ideas are appreciated,

Tom.

Re: NC8000 Wireless tab missing?

Check to see if the WZCSVC service is running in the Services MMC that is in the Admin tools group of the control panel. If the service is stopped or disabled, enable it and start it. That action should cause the wireless tab to be reintroduced to the Wireless adapter's properties page.

Thanks for the answer though.

Re: NC8000 Wireless tab missing?

Is this XP or Win2K? I have never seen a situation with XP where the WZCSVC wasn't in the Services MMC because there isn't any way to install or remove it. You might be best served by re-installing the operating system.

If Win2K, it does not have a WZC service and utility.. you need to use the vendor utility to create network profiles.

Re: NC8000 Wireless tab missing?

Phillip, maybe I'm missing something here... I've checked 4 other systems (NC8000) along with a desktop that is running wirless none of them have any service starting with "Wz" ?

can you send me a screen shot of the service that you need me to check?

Thanks for your time!

Re: NC8000 Wireless tab missing?

I have observed the same problem on a Toshiba Satellite laptop running XP home.
I tried the solution proposed by
Philip Doragh but found
WZCSVC service to be running.
So this was not a solution.
Please let me know if you have solved this problem.
