Wireless - File Sharing

Using Compaq Presario 3210CA Notebook to connect to my home LAN via d-link 524 router.
Have setup the networking to connect through the router. The notebook is able to connect to the internet; however, am not able to connect to the other computers to do file and printer sharing.
I have turned off the firewall protection. I can ping the other computers successfully. Under networking, "view workgroup computers", nothing is displayed, not even the notebook computer shared folders.

Interestingly, when I harwire the notebook to the router, file sharing works just fine.

What setting have to be set to get the wireless connection to enable file sharing??

Thanks

Re: Wireless - File Sharing

Look if router is filtering netbios for the wireless.

Re: Wireless - File Sharing

Run the network wizard on both pcs.

Now you will see both computers.

Make sure you share what you want shared.

Re: Wireless - File Sharing

The fact that the sharing works when the laptop is cabled to the router indicates that the problem relates to either the wireless configuration on the laptop (typically the firewall - which you say has been disabled) or the router.

I have seen this exact complaint about mant consumer grade wireless routers and I am starting to think that some of them are designed this way to provide some measure of protection from driveby hacking - have you contacted D-Link tech support?

Re: Wireless - File Sharing

solution found.
For some reason, the file sharing and client networking on the wireless connectionwas not operational. By simply disabling and enabling the features the operation was restored.

thanks all for your input
