						Hi
I have a 3COM 4400 24 port switch and I need to expand the network. This switch is no longer in production the next model is the 4500. What I would like to know is are these 2 switches compatible and if so what additional connectors are required in order to stack them?
All replies will be appreciated.
Cheers

						Hi,
4500 and 4400 are not stackable, but you have several solutions :
- you can just interconnect them with a gigabit interface, but you need a
1000BASE-T module behind the 4400. The problem is to find one of
those modules
- you can connect your two switches with an aggregate link of several
10/100 ports (configuration needed with LACP)

You could also use the 1000Base-SX fiber module on the 4400 and the SX fiber SFP on the 4500 and a $30 fiber patch cable. These modules are still available, cheap, and you have the added protection from lightning/surges because the only connection between the switches is fiber.
Hope that helps.
Rob.
