Can you provide a little bit more info (Switch exact model) about your 3Com Switches?
There is a 2012 HP Series Switch & Router Brand Migration Feature Guide that explain how to switch the Switch brand from 3Com (and H3C) to HP but not all Switch models support that (re)branding feature.

I say that because I think first you should brand your Switches, if possible, to HP from 3Com and then see how to upgrade to latest hp firmware available (if any) by reading the relevant HP Release Notes.
With 3Com 4200G are you referring to 3Com SuperStack 3 Switch 4200 [*] family?

- 3Com Switch 4250T (3C17302)
- 3Com Switch 4228G (3C17304)
- 3Com Switch 4200 (3C17300A)
- 3Com Switch 4200 (3C17302A)

As per screenshot above...the 3Com SuperStack 3 4200 Switch family isn't included (as opposed to 3Com 4210 Switch family).
With 3Com 5500G are you referring to 3Com SuperStack 4 Switch 5500G-EI [**] family?

Regarding the 3Com SuperStack 4 Switch 5500G-EI family read this partially related thread...I feel hp (re)branding is not supported.

- 3Com SuperStack 3 Switch 4500 26-Port (3CR17561-91): who really know...
