4500 and NJ2000 Vlan

I am working on setting up a VLAN that spans both a 4500 and an NJ2000 Intellijack. It works when I plug the INtellijack into a port (on the 4500) that has port access, but when I create a trunk port on the 4500 to allow the VLANS it does not. Has anyone done this? If the Intelllijack will support only 1 VLAN do I need to use a trunk port or will an access port do?
