4800G IRF Configuration Guide
I have searched for a configuration manual for the 4800G series IRF configuration guide. I see a lot of stuff for the 5500 which is easy; however, I have been told the 4800G is different.
Can someone please provide a link to the manual that has the IRF configuration details and examples if possible?
Thank you

Re: 4800G IRF Configuration Guide
The H3C/HP 5500 is the same as 4800G (which was the 3com name).

Re: 4800G IRF Configuration Guide
Thanks for the tip.
I was told, by a reliable source, that it could be different. Would there be a case in which they are different?

Re: 4800G IRF Configuration Guide
Hi Robert.
As far as I know also, the IRF settings are the same in both models, with no special case. Take a look in this guide:
http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c02645768/c02645768.pdf
Keep in mind that the IRF ports have to connect to each other using different ID's. For example: IRF port 1 needs to be connected to IRF port 2 always, even when using just one physical port. If you join two physical ports in order to form one IRF port, you have to connect it physically to the IRF port 2 on the second switch in the same way.
In the attachment, follows the IRF config guide of the 4800G.

Re: 4800G IRF Configuration Guide
Please upgrade the 4800G to the newest SW-Version, that it will be the same. In old versions, the command was as following:
irf member x irf-port y port z
now its:
irf-port x/y
port group interface ten x/1/z

Re: 4800G IRF Configuration Guide
Hi Manuel,
I'm having the same problem, too. But I got the point with the numbering.
But regarding the adviced firmware update I have some questions:
The latest version online for the 4800-24G-SFP is: S4800G-CMW520-R2202P15-S56
But I have a download from September 2011 when version A5500EI_E4800G_5.20.R2208_A5500EI_E4800G_5.20.R2208 was available.
Do you know if there were issues with this firmware release, because it's no longer online.
Or should we take the firmware upgrade from the 5500 EI?
Thanks in advance,
JoLa

Re: 4800G IRF Configuration Guide
Hi Robert,
what firmware release do you have?
Use "display ver" to display it.
If you have the stock firmware (2202) you need to use the first command Manuel posted ("irf member x irf-port y port z").
Before you can you this command you have to switch to system view (type "sys" at the terminal).

Re: 4800G IRF Configuration Guide
I am aware of going into system-view
Version 5.20 Release 2202P11
when in sys you can do:
irf?
and there is no recommendation for irf-port even when doing:
irf ?
There is no irf-port recommendation

Re: 4800G IRF Configuration Guide
irf member 1 irf-port 1 port 1
You need to select the member before you can change/select the irf-port.
irf member 1 ?
should give you the right recommendations.

Re: 4800G IRF Configuration Guide
Ciao Robert
the manual you found is for 2206 and newer. :-)
I suggest you tu upgrade to 2208p01. It includes many features you will like.

As I wrote some posts earlier, is it possible to use the firmware for the 5500 EI( https://h10145.www1.hp.com/downloads/SoftwareReleases.aspx?ProductNumber=JD375A )?
Because on the page for the 4800-24G-SFP there is still the 2202P15:
https://h10145.www1.hp.com/downloads/SoftwareReleases.aspx?ProductNumber=JD009A
Best regards,
