Difficulty getting PoE started and configured

Hi all, I need a little bit of help to get our 7750 to enable PoE to our new Cisco 7960, and 7971 handsets.



We just purchased and added to our switch a 3c16890 48 port 10/100/1000 PoE Module card, as well as the 3C16883 External PoE Power rack. They are both installed, connected and seem to be functioning correctly as per install guides.



I have a 3C16890 ver. C card in slot 1, and the new 16890 ver. D in slot 4



I updated switch software to 3.03.00rp1 and boot rom to 532

Using Device Manager, I am unable to configure any PoE ports, the software reports "the selected ports do not support PoE" I have tried on both the new and old 3c16890 cards.



I have also tried to set the ports using the telnet CLI interface with the commands:

system-view

poe enable slot 4





and the port:

system-view

interface GigabitEthernet4/0/1

poe enable





Is there something I am missing? It seems like it should all work at this point, but I am not having any luck, and cannot find any good documentation or guides on how this is really supposed to be configured.

I am now up and running with a little help from 3 com tech support. Thanks Fabio! I really can't thank you enough.



My system was setup and running correctly, with all the right components, firmware, bootrom and software versions.



The "magic command" to make my PoE devices all work, (cisco phones, and panasonic network camera's) was to enable legacy mode.



system-view!

poe legacy enable slot 4!



and everything powered up.



You can find more details on this command in chapter 63, page 855 of the command reference guide.



My advice, is to try your PoE devices the standard way, but to try the Legacy mode if it's not working after that point.
